How to be Prepared for Your First E-Biking Tour

A bicycle touring that you may have had before could bring you wonderful joyousness, being a self-supporting biking trip for pleasure or adventure, not merely sport or workout. Taken as a prepense journey or casual jaunt, it is more enjoyable and readily with an electric bicycle rather than a regular bike since it is easier with the former for riders of varying physical capacity (including lower or high levels) to reach.

A majority of electric bicycles are not completely motorized but serve as a right-hand assistant to boost your pedals when you pedal hard due to exhaustion or climb steep hills. In this way, cyclists could cover longer distances with a little push and gain a sense of fulfillment. For beginners, it seems exciting but puzzling: how to prepare before setting off for an electric cycling tour? Here are some tips if you are making preparations for an electric bicycle touring.

1.PLAN AN E-CYCLING ROUTE

E-cycling touring can range from single-day to multi-day trips, mostly organized by travel companies, fund-raising groups like charities, cycling clubs, or individuals. If you want to plan by yourself, the first thing to do is make certain of your destination and the total distance from the jumping-off point. Then plot your route by some apps or online websites, which enable you to draw up a more enjoyable and cycling-friendly route. Moreover, you should take into consideration these things when making a route plan: road conditions like paved cycle paths or rolling hills, food supplies, day-to-day cycling distance, board and lodging (booking inn in advance or pitch a tent), and public charging station. When you get to the decision point on the route, it is suggested to print the route map out especially for a long ride, and make marks of some significant details if possible, write notes in your notebook.

Significantly, cycling can range from high-intensity to low-paced, which is determined by contrasting physical ability, stunning or tough terrain, and intervals or long rides. An initial self-assessment of physical capacity makes for projecting a befitting route and adapting the distance to your level. But once taking more cycling distance than the allowance amount of physical-capacity consumption, you should relatively reduce pedaling speed or vary gears to gain more pedal-assistance, reliving high-intensity pressure of your body.

2.SELECT A PROPER E-BIKE AND CHECK IF EVERYTHING'S OK

Before you set off for an electric biking tour, picking out a proper electric bicycle that has been met with your scheduled distance and route is very important. You probably already own one. If so, make sure whether it can be used for a multi-day riding or a short e-bike tour. Or select and purchase an ebike with fat and knobby tires for tough road, or larger battery capacity for a long cycling tour. Battery capacity is a key component to look at, or you can add one more battery to your electric bike. Additionally, for riders' mental satisfaction they opt for a comfortable e-bike over long cycling distances rather than spending some days struggling to digest formidable trips.

For long rides, inspect your e-bike carefully such as tires, brake, chain, and a luggage rack. Doing your best to put things in control by learning the basics about mechanics, then take some simple replacements and tools that you can repair and solve some mechanical problems along the way.

3.MAKE A PACKING LIST

Target distances of electric biking tours vary considerably for different purposes. So do loaded weights. A single-day e-cycling tour allows you to take a lightweight tour or an ultralight tour for which the former riders pack up a minimum of equipment and lots of money for food, while the latter riders carry bare essentials with food. A lightweight tour with hotel accommodations and eating out at restaurants could work for a multi-day electric biking tour as well. Or it could be a fully loaded touring for self-support or expedition for which cyclists carry things they need, including food, tools, and a lightweight tent (as a basic necessity).

If you are going out for a day-long riding of long-distance, except durable backpack, saddlebags and trailers are suggested, which allow you to carry a heavy load. Based on the planned route, prepare clothing essentials to wear like cycling clothes, enough water to hydrate especially on hot summer days, food to replenish like energy snacks, headlight to illuminate, GPS or maps to locate, and tools to repair. There are some optional items if you're going to go camping on the night of your tour: lighting, cooking equipment, solar panel, toiletries, and tents. For camping, you could opt for pitching a tent or laying down on a sleeping pad or in a sleeping bag. You can also carry items like sunscreen cream, eye drops, and a first aid kit for personal care and health care.

4.BUY INSURANCE AND KEEP SAFETY

Travel insurance helps resolve some unexpected problems but it is not a necessity. No one wants to see emergencies and injuries happened whether or not you choose to cover insurance for your touring. But it is better to have a comprehensive understanding of the insurance that you would like to cover.

Get to know how to keep your safety before you set off your e-bike touring. When you leave your ebike, remember to lock and carry valuables in case of stealing. Always wear a helmet and obey traffic rules.

5.GET TO KNOW WEATHER CONDITION AHEAD

Pay attention to what the weather is likely to be the next day or the next few days before you set off. A sudden rain will reduce your visibility and some geological disasters caused by rain are serious threats to cycling.

6.DO SOME STRETCHES BEFORE RIDING

Cyclists also need to do some stretches to prevent injuries while stretching can keep our muscles flexible, strong, and healthy. Stretching not only gets your body prepared for cycling, but also gets you away from the risk of joint pain, strains, and muscle damage.
